I remember the first time I walked up our driveway after dusk with the kids trailing behind, holding a thermos of cocoa and comparing which neighbor had the brightest porch decorations. Between baseball practice, carpools, and homework, those little moments of calm feel like treasure. My two kids, ages 8 and 11, ask me to slow down when the lights highlight the pathway and reveal the maple leaves, and I laugh at how important it is to them that our house looks welcoming.
